mixing scratching and all that stuff

well after 2 days of droning layered guitars and lots of black leather (ahem), i went to bed last night with the promise to start the new month off rediscovering my love for looped beats and noise.
i made a pact to dig out that fantastic superb nothing to fear mix by steinski and reconnect with all that is cut-n-paste.
so imagine my sheer joy when in the usual pile of guitar totin’ wannabees that the postman delivered today, was the forthcoming mix from dj food and dk, now listen again.
i call that perfect timing.
now this isn’t the time for a proper review as i need to live with this for a week of 2, but 20 minutes into the chaos i was declaring via email to others this release the best commercially available mix of the year.
of course there are those that don’t give a hoot re clearance and fill the wire with unofficial mixes that impress a few hardcore downloaders, but for those that like to have proper prodcut, that dont have a big fat pipe, nothing beats a proper beautifully packaged album that can be picked up in your local woolies/hmv/virgin etc etc.
nothing.
insider knowledge informs me, that this album has been an absolute killer of a record to get cleared (wait till you see the tracklisting !) – and for this listener, the effort has been totally worth it.
the spread of styles, the clash of crowd pleasers and unknowns will probably make the hairs on thebacks of purists rise, but damn, its exactly what i was needing.
