quite a varied selection to say the least – even some 70s folk (not really given that one any time yet weirdly), and classic yacht rock.
of this lot, the ones that i was most chuffed about was the dreadzone, cypress hill, pet shop boys, and sade cds.
all big name, popular albums, so don’t really need to explain why other than so say each of these bands hit the spot when in specific moods.
that said, the album i have enjoyed the most is the debut release by the weird art/rock/hip hop collective, whale.
of course i knew of their big hit, hobo slumpin’ babe, and have their second album, the brilliantly titled all disco dance must end in broken bones, but nothing prepared me for the sheer visceral onslaught of the debut.
with several appearances by tricky, and a lot of abuse of guitars, it’s a brilliant mix of rock noise and twisted hip hop.
an absolutely fantastic album.
oh, and the one reason for picking up ‘maximum rave‘ was for a full clean digital version of the all time party tune, on a ragga tip by sl2.
so many memories of that tune, i had to get the cheesy compilation just for that track, though the whole compilation is stuffed with old school rave one-off tunes/remixes.
