now i’m liking this.
basically, the man behind the excellent reggae soul revue gang, pama international, sean flowerdew, has gathered together a new bunch of folks, and revisited some 2 tone classics by the specials, madness, the selector, the beat etc, in an authentic old school 60 ska style.
of course, the 2 tone catalogue is littered with cover versions, so this is kind of going the other way, and the results are nothing short of wonderful.
there are no sonic surprises, no experiments, just 30 minutes of warm sounding live in the studio ska reversions of songs people of a certain age will already know like the back of their blade 1 shaved head, with special guest appearances by dave barker, a genuine trojan records legend.
as i said, i’m liking this a lot.
