i realise this may come as a shock to some, but i can’t deny it, in the last few weeks the debut release by imelda may, love tattoo, has been a solid fixture on the ireallylovemusic stereo.
now, i can’t vouch for the latest release, mayhem, but i can’t imagine she has strayed too far from the vibe of pumped rock-n-roll riffs, backing horns, and that big brassy voice all wrapped up with a splattering of ‘tude and rabble rousing rockabilly guitars.
while it would be easy to knock as pastiche, i happen to think the results sound fresh and a lot of fun, especially when dropped into the boy/man band excess of radio 2.
so, i’m somewhat tempted to catch her on the forthcoming tour, and see if the girl can cut it live.
