nancy wilson : wild is the wind

over the next few days i think you are going to realise that a slight change in the groove @ ireallylovemusic has occurred.

gone is the love for electro’d up bangers, (surely the era of ‘landfill indie meets casiotone’ is ending ?), and instead it’s mad men style cool meaning that vocal jazz albums from an era long gone that have been left unloved in a corner of the archive are getting a lot of airplay.

so today’s treat, and trust me it is a genuine treat, comes from one of several albums that nancy wilson released in 1963 on capitol records, hollywood : my way, which followed a fairly typical style of the day :  well known showtunes, songs from films, and a smattering of standards are given a smoky filled jazz backing all matched with spine tingling vocal perfection.

of course as most will be aware, wild is the wind was given world wide attention years later by the thin white duke on his recently reissued station to station album, so to hear the song in such a different context is very refreshing and wonderful, possibly even surpassing the excellence of bowie.

yes, it really is that good.

switch off the smartphone/tv/games console/iron, settle down, and just soak this one up.
