today the news hit the wire of steven well’s death to cancer.
i rarely agreed with his musical opinions (though we were side by side when it came to the pixies), but his columns were sharp, incisive, thought provoking, and for the majority of the time, downright bloody funny.
even as he wrote about his brutally honest insights into his own trials and tribulations when it came to the onset of cancer, his writing style still had the capacity to make you simultaneously laugh and cry.
so, it goes without saying that this is very very sad news for those of us who grew up in the 80s, when his reviews and articles were often the first things people would read in the nme, or was that just me ?
