mark archer – ring of gyges ep

back in late 2007 i was lucky to get my hands on the vinyl only mark archers ep, songs for einna, that ds:93 released.

despite the logistical difficulties involved with loving a vinyl only release for yours truly, the  record proved to be a bit of a turning point for the playlist @ ireallylovemusic hq in that it really brought home just how much i wanted to listen to electronic music again, thus setting in action the way that 2008 was going to go.

with the ep proving he was still, after a few years in self applied exile, the master of deep-n-beautiful analogue techno, i have been looking forward to hearing what comes next in marks ever changing career path with keen anticipation.

so when amongst a chunk of email promotions i received today, i was given the chance to check out his new 3 tracker, i jumped at the chance and hit the relevant links.

released on new electronic label, mutate records (other folks involved include si beggs and unique 3), the ep continues very much in the same league as the songs for einna ep : bass heavy beats, widescreen ambience, thumping dance floor shaking bass, and updated acidic bleeps (ep closer, riser, lets the acid sqiggles loose over a delightful crunchy beat).

making this digital only affair an absolute belter of a release that should easily please people who believe detroit styled techno to be of the most pure and beautiful music.
