mark archer – songs for einna

i should point a few things out.
as much as i love vinyl, it’s not that easy for me to check the music out.
once in 6 weeks i get sole control over ireallylovemusic hq for a few hours meaning i get to check out a few tunes during this golden period. however, the record deck is over in the west wing of hq, while the machine with the keyboard is over in the east wing, so i cant give a proper rundown as my memory cells are battered and bruised due to overexposure to musics of all shapes and colours over the years.
also, this ep was released several weeks ago on the new ds:93 sub-label, i never got around to reviewing it properly, mainly as there was basically no need to, as all 93 copies were sold out well before the record was actually released.
so with that little detail in mind, i felt it bad protocol to harp on about how great a record was despite the fact most people will never get to hear the music, but hey, fuck protocol, it’s a great slice of old school detroit styled bleep techno. while mark archer is mainly known for his part in the world of altern-8, the 4 tracks on this heavy duty 12″ hark back to his nexus 21 stuff, that i was lucky enough to get on the old music with bleeps compilation, with one track (dream plant i believe) even having a direct connection to the acid house classic voodoo ray in the choice of synth line. sweet melodies, a few bleeps and a throbbing bass line and i’m as happy as pig in muck.
so, despite the fact i will only be able to enjoy the excellence once in a blue moon, i am rather chuffed to have grabbed a slice of this action.
subsequently, i recommend you sign up to the ds:93 mailing list, as i suspect the rest of the series are going to be as in demand as this one.
oh, and to rub the salt in a little more, the folks involved filmed the packaging process and dropped the results on youtube, with one of the tracks as a soundtrack. glorious.
