the box sets/dadahack : myspace recommendations

well yes its true.

no matter how hard i try and resist the dreadfulness that is myspace, it seems that bands are still intent on using it to spread their word across the wired world.

rarely do i pop over there voluntarily, but this week, two links have proven to be worthy.

first up, the box sets.

a large collection of musicians based in western Massachusetts have finished putting together their debut album, amor backwards, and asked if yours truly was interested.

from the samples on offer via their myspace, the answer was a resounding ‘yes!’.

a little slice of slightly experimental, but listenable hip hop  that gives reference points to buck 65 before he decided to become a nu-world version of tom waites, teamed up with some fem vox that hold together the passion and blues felt intensity.

bling free, interesting musical backing, this could be the beginning of something rather special, and may even make me dig out my old galliano records.

next up its the latest adventures from james banbury – he of the ever interesting service av label that is now warming up for its 2008 campaign, and producer/arranger for last years wonderful sarah nixey album.

obviously james has got a lot of time on his hands (joke), as he has pointed me in the direction of his latest sonic adventure, dadahack.

working alongside peter davis (various remixes for sarah), they have produced some fascinating electronic music that references the glitch noise of prefuse 73, but cannot help but make use of james’ classical training, thus incorporating the use of melody amongst the broken beats.

of course, the real fun begins when you hear this via proper stereos as opposed to the skinny die-space streams, but still, i thought i’d pass on the information.
