having lost the press release for this album a long time ago, those all important nuggets of nerdy detail are somewhat sparse.
so here’s what i have to hand.
supreme beings of leisure consist of 2 studio based boffins who apparently have 11 billion friends according to their myspace hang out :
geri soriano-lightwood, who provides the beauty drenched sultry vocals,
and ramin sakurai giving it his all with the rich layered cinematic electronic backing.
i can also tell you this is the duos third album.
while there are obvious references abound throughout the 11 tracks (zero 7, lamb, mono, and any of the old school trip hop movement) there is no denying that sometimes these guys really hit the pleasure spot for when big widescreen electro pop is the order of the day.
sometimes the atmospherics are smooth and gorgeous (the brilliant string heavy this world being one such example that will be probably used for a slow motion high production advert sometime), and sometimes there is a little more bite with subtle d-n-b ryhthms adding a punchy base to the proceedings, as per swallow.
for me, the best result is when the band have a go at loosening up and provide a soundtrack to the glamorous glitzy disco scene, good, a fat-n-nice throbbing acid electro groove is laid down while geri lets it known to anyone interested that “i’ll be good another day’, after a few minutes having got the blood pumping this dancefloor kitten then cuts abruptly to the dramatic late night smoothness of pieces.
as is to be expected for an album that doesn’t hide its love for the much maligned trip hop movement, after an hour of moodswings, the finale is a delicious lowtempo ambient comedown epic that then drifts into an extended digital universe making the white noise manipulation that closes 11i a perfect way to bring this lovely album to its logical conclusion.
