with some shame i have to admit that i have had this in the pile for months and several times i tried to figure out what is going on. the cover is pure glamour, and rather special.
the standard track, firetime, is a pumped up singer songwriter song that would fit in well with the playlists of bad tempered fans of amy macdonald/kt tunstall, but the remixes are off the wall.
ranging from stripped back bare acoustics, the so called damien mix, to full on string drenched dancefloor tranced up monsters, see the 2 tony senghores banging mixes for more detail on that score, especially the flush mix.
either lisa is trying to hedge her bets and cover all bases, or she is the ultimate pop chameleon and has her well manicured fingers in every corner of the pop pie. like i said, i’m still not sure, and to be honet, when the results are as dramatic as these often are, i really don’t care.
of the remixes, i have to say the one posted is by far my favourite.
coming on like a roughed up goth classic from the late 80s the simple but effective pummelling bassline, the thin date stamped drum machines, and eerie leeds 6 atmosphere prove that lisa could be a perfect replacement for those in mourning over the lack of any decent material from garbage. bearing in mind that this 3 minute snarled up blast, is a lot more unpleasant and threatening than anything shirley has done in a long time, so don’t let that association put you off from doing the clicky click thing.
