well having spent the most of the year 2007 not listening to any hip hop (i kept trying but it just didn’t feel right .. ) all of a sudden things seem to have picked up.
and the reason ?
well basically, i’m going to throw the blame up to that bloke up in sheffield again.
oh yes, it’s the return of kid acne which is, of course, to be celebrated.
his last album, council pop totally did it for me back in the dark ages, and the new set, romance ain’t dead, (coming out via lex/emi of all places!), looks to be on track to surpass that particular highlight.
the beats have once again been crafted with a lot of input from req one, a perfect case of, if aint broke ….
proper review later on once i digest it a little more, but so far the best hip hop album of 2007.
not only that, but lex records have also released a nice 4 track ep, blue experience ep, by the mysteriously named, shape of broad minds.
which is basically well respected instrumental hip hop producer jneiro jarel with a bunch of loose moods and guest appearances. the result is a wonderful 4 tracker that consists of psychedelic grooves, spaced out production, and a lot of mf doom styled madness, if you remember and like old mo’wax hero, divine styler then this ep is definitely for you. there is a full album out now with lovely artwork of course, and i saw the hip hop connection special cover, but missed out, something i know i will regret.
so, that’s two hip hop records in one day. so, while i’m on the move, have decided to try that necro album, death rap. suspect that’s going to push me back, but hey.
