zan pan – swati

a few years ago, the ever excellent memphis industries label released a gem of an album : pretty monster, by the duo known to the world as fort lauderdale.
the album was an understanded classic using the same timeless piano driven glam pop as david bowies hunky dory, making the album one of my favourites for many a month.
however, my public declaration meant nothing, and the band were to be left on the sidelines as punk funk took over the world and glam pop was left gasping for breathe.
now several years later when all things glam seems to be in demand again, hello pop levi, toby jenkins (aka the squire of somerton), alongside label mates blue states head honcho andy dragazis, have teamed up to create more magical music.
also, it should be noted that the press people behind the excellent stool pigeon newspaper (which is now a bugger to track down as fopp has gone, and many indie record shops have been run out of most provincial towns) have released this as one of those ultra limited 7″ singles on new memphis industries/stool pigeon offspring, called of all things : pigeon coup.
the a-side, sirens of tital, is a prog beats of mammoth proportions that will scare children on a dark and stormy night.
however, flip the plastic, and you are met by a beauty of the most wonderful acoustic psyche pop kind.
delicate, calm and rather special swati is everything a grown man, or woman, could ever want when the lights are low and the mood mellow.
glorious in every way, lets just hope the band get the chance to make a full album.
