probably the last band i totally fell for in a true old fashioned manner was the media baiting, drug addled space rock collective known as the regular fries. they induced hatred from many corners of the world, ran up record label crushing bills left right and centre, and yet somehow amongst the chaos release some great records.
whether you like straight up pop music (the glorious, eclipse), ambient laid back gorgeousness, extended psychedelic workouts, or some deep-n-funky post acid house rock music, the fries had it all.
i am not going to go into detail as to the bands party excess, nor am i going to drop word of the long awaited interview that ireallylovemusic managed to squeeze out of the band prior to their final planetary sign off.
instead i’m just going to point you in the direction of a cracking mix that was dropped as an extra track on the end of their final album (not including the self released compilation), blueprint for a higher civilisation.
at the time, this remix was often skipped as i just didn’t get it.
the thing is, all these years later, the excess of sequencered up synths, machines clashing, and the compressed to fuck digital beats, sound totally relevant in this revived smiley culture of 2007.
the track takes a few minutes to get going, so hang on in there, but once the madness kicks in, your patience is duly rewarded.
glorious.
