the chemical brothers – do it again

you know despite the fact the chemical brothers have been around for years and provided us with many a juggernaut beat enhanced soundtrack, i have to be honest that their oeuvre has rarely impacted on the ireallylovemusic playlist.
however, all that has changed with the new single, do it again, the first track to be lifted from the forthcoming album, we are the night. this could be due to the obvious nods towards the current love for minimal thin techno beats and subtle production, as opposed to the lads usual approach of jack hammering the listener into submission.
the jittery but still smooth vocals by ali love, are lodged on top of some excellent machine noise that attempts to induce any recipients of the groove to do some old robotic body poppin’ moves, before things take a twist when the bass-noir loop of do it again starts to repeat over and over in an ever increasingly sinister fashion.
i doubt the rest of the album will match this brilliantly understated record as the chemical brothers just love their big beats too much, but it’s definitely a contender for one of the best singles of the year, which is saying something for a band that have been churning out records since the early 90s.
