hot chip – dj kicks

from the dfa sanctioned electro-poppers there is a forthcoming legal mixtape on the ever impressive !k7 records.
with the typically diverse track selection incorporating pounding minimal techno, melodrama, romance, and a chunk of synth heavy pop.
of course, there is a lot of this lot that i have never heard previously, but as the whole point of a mix like this is to educate, and point the listener into new areas of aural discovery, this is no bad thing.
oh, the unexpected appearance of the dirty punk funk of like you by output recordings gramme is always a welcome surprise, as is the old 60s soul stomper in the basement by etta james standing out from the machine heavy tracklisting like a very welcome sore thumb.
also, i believe that hidden amongst the 24 tracks that are blended to perfection there is a new exclusive hot chip track, my piano, for the hardcore fans which is very sweet and addictive.
the mix out at the end of may, and highly recommended.
