field music – a house is not a home

for january there really is only one single worth getting, and in these time starved days, it’s a bloody short one.
this being the new single, a house is not a home, from the forthcoming album, tones of town, by field music.
there is something about the whole melody and song structure that just works brilliantly. the band haven’t completely given up on their disjointed rhythms that made the first album sometimes hard going, but with the new recordings they have discovered better ways in which to blend the love for melody and progressive pop music to create a song that recalls the glory days of piano heavy 70s radio pop music yet forging ahead with something that sounds as if it could only have been made in 2006. so, with the fact that last year the pretty dreadful the feeling brought the oft overlooked genre that is power pop back to the uk charts, hopefully, if radio 2 give this wonderful little record enough exposure this understated 3 piece from the north will have the same level of love thrown in their direction.
we can but hope.
