electro. electro. electro.
released on the ever impressive chicago based hefty records label, this beautifully packaged album revisits those old sleeping bag record productions, as well as a few old school minimal dark and heavy acid house records.
sometimes the results are superb, the kraftwerk-esque moods of body heat being a prime example, and sometimes the choice of the synth noises are a little too close to the less interesting cliches of the genre.
when the vibe is more raw and dirty, things are a lot more enjoyable, so much so that even when the normally offputting booty bass groove influences the party the results still work some kind of illicit magic, especially during the delicately titled, sexual harassment which seems to be having a dig at the genre while the machines do all manner of wobble inducing chaos. but, for me, the highlight has to be the fantastic minimal pulsations of our pleasures, which features sinister slowed down vocals from the so called creepy autograph recalling some of the more noir aspect of the original acid house movement that predated all that smiley face rubbish, the track is a wonderful exercise in reviving an oft forgotten era of dance music, but with the new edge in the production, the results very special indeed.
while not a drop dead classic (too many tracks meander and dont have any punch), the album is a rather fine slice of midi fuelled fun, which will have you regretting the day you chucked those old streetsounds/electro compilations out, or, were you never that foolish ?
