released at the tail end of 2010, i am ashamed to admit that this album has been left gathering dust on the shelf.
still, better late than never eh ?
motorifik is the new side project of one of the blokes, phil kay, out of manchster heroes working for a nuclear free city, and idrisse khelfi.
and, despite the bands name indicating some kind of krautrock revival, this short sharp album is more indebted to the world of phil spector influenced fuzz rock, and 60s psych soft pop.
with songs lifting that drum beat from the ronettes (you’ll know the one .. ), and massive layers of reverb’d to f*ck guitars and echo drenched lazy sunday morning vocals for a good chunk of the 33 minutes, motorifik recall the glory days of st johnny, jesus and the mary chain and several creation records bands, but with bigger, fatter bass lines.
then just as your ears begin to flag under the onslaught of clattering drums and guitars, the band throw in gorgeous melody heavy curveballs via a few acoustic psych songs such as nameless colour, nostalgia, and sleep forever.
while the beautifully layered noise is not stretching any boundaries of originality, the result is a very enjoyable 33 minute listen, which is all you can ask for really.
