having been somewhat disconnected to the world of machine music for a while, i’m chuffed to bits to report that the latest buzzin’ fly 12″ is rather lovely, and underlines all that i love about electronic music.
according to the press release, tevo howard came to the labels attention due to the fact that tracey thorn had previously dropped some vocals onto a remix of an instrumental of tevos, without me. this ended up with fly boss man, ben watts, asking tevo to sort out some music for buzzin’ fly, with this 4 tracker being the end result; a mellow piece of pulsating house music that doesn’t thump and grind the listener into submission, but instigates memories of slo-mo moody shots of miami vice sunset power boat scenes.
the original 4 minute 40 seconds version is a sublime, minimal combination of melodic bleeps and yamaha dx7 styled chords, whereas, the remixes firm up the beats, push the melody in different directions, and add sharper extra layers to the sonic palette, or in the case of the donnacha costello rough dub (my own particular favourite), the track is morphed into a 7 minute up-and-at-em dance floor filling analogue acid house thump.
cracking stuff.
