well, this is a novelty.
on my door mat a few days ago was a one track cd single.
there was a time when this was a regular occurrence to such a level that ireallylovemusic hq was literally bursting at the seam with the bloody things.
so, i stopped writing about one off singles as i just couldn’t keep up, and to be honest most of them were crap.
but the arrival of light it up by blood red shoes hit the spot at just the right time as guitar music has suddenly made a welcome return to the playlist
of course it helps that the song is a short sharp addictive slice of fuzzed up punk pop that by the very admission of the band themselves is a ‘pixies formula song’. the old school “quiet – quiet – loud” trick is executed to be perfection, and the chantalong chorus of ‘light it up’ will be in your head for hours after the 3rd listen.
a cracking slice of fuzzed up rock-n-roll.
one would like to assume that evening radio play is guaranteed and live venues across the world are filled to capacity enjoying the duos sparky grooves.
now someone please tell me if the album is worthy of my pocket money or if this is a one-off highlight !
