ireallylovemusic : the dead zone

hello folks.

you may have noticed in recent times a chill has settled on this part of the wire.

and the reason ?

well, basically, there’s fuck all to report on.

you see when i have something to show-n-tell, i do, for example see the posts i made while i slummed it in downtown chicago earlier this year (part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4), and when there isn’t of interest i don’t.

currently my life can be summed as thus :

– get up/feed kids/eat/drive to work

– work

– drive home

– feed kids/eat/clean up/watch tv

– read miles davis autobiography for 30 minutes

– pass out

– repeat until !.

throughout this ongoing routine there is of course a soundtrack to alleviate the stress/boredom, which happens to have focussed primarily on the six talcum soul compilations (hardly a duff’un amongst the 120 tracks!), dusty springfield, various david axelrod productions, donovan reissues, and the chilled out prog excess of amorphous androgyny.

clearly there has been little appetite for anything sonically fresh, as my ears and head demands comfort zone sounds.

i should advise that this apathy towards the world of 2010 has not been something that has sat well with me. i have become aware of this ongoing disconnection and so via several youtube sessions, tried to understand the appeal of the current salem/witch house phenomena and to be honest, everything i have heard leaves me cold and unmoved, despite the aural signifiers (dark moods, industrial noise) being very much part of my dna.

on the other hand, today i can’t help but find myself sing ‘nananananana‘ at max volume a la my chemical romance, a band who until now, i had absolutely no idea of, so maybe, just maybe, my ears are readjusting once more.

just maybe.
