fat truckers made one album, the first fat truckers album, and that was quite enough i think.
however, in recent times, that one album has been really hitting the spot.
the premise was quite simple by the looks of it : bunch of northern blokes team up with the designers republic, makes friends with various industry people (pulp and james murphy are thanked in the sleevenotes) make a time stamped, sarcastic noise for 40 minutes, then f*ck off.
well not quite, as research indicates that one of them went onto to help out m.i.a, but for the sake of legend, lets just ignore that.
the lyrical humour is dark, the music abrasive electroc(l)ash with thin drum machines, analogue distorted synthetic noise and two fingered keyboard melodies, meaning it was to be expected that the album got a reissue via dj hells international deejay gigolo records.
for a quick dip, the track i love you son provides an insight into the verbal b-s that spews out of cash rich hopefuls who like to try at being a bands manager. and so is nothing more than a recreation of scenarios played out all over the land on a daily basis, just that here the results recall the sardonic wordplay by another bunch of northern chancers, earl brutus.
yes, it really is that good.
