ok ok, i’ll admit it, but the leaks of various snippet of artwork and stuff did not enthral me about the forthcoming gorillaz project, plastic beach.
needless to say, now that we are in the final days prior to the albums release, i cannot deny it, i am fucking psyched for it now.
part of this was watching the video for stylo.
[wot ! no proper single release spread across lots of lovely formats for me to collect, and emi to grab more of my cash, just crappy itunes ! grrrrrr]
the simple but effective electro-thud of the track backing for stylo may not have the production finesse of dan the automator, nor danger mouse, but after a few spins, the play off between damon, sorry, 2ds, vocals really hit home.
oh, and wait until you catch the video featuring 3d animation that makes avatar look like a 6th form project, bruce willis plus big gun, car chase, and the first real appearance of robot noodle (the back story as to why noodle is now a robot is a bit messy and not overly clear, but seems to involve the death of her in their previous video, murdoc going into hell to get her back, and retrieving some of her dna from which they construct this robot noodle, or some other post-pub session gubbins like that, but such madness is surely part of the fun of gorillaz).
not only that, but if you provide your email address, there is a minimix of the album so you can sample its delights prior to its release. legally.
