what ?
oasis getting some blog love.
well yes actually.
you see this mix is no ordinary mix.
it’s 23 minutes of over the top psychedelic excess.
in case you weren’t aware the mix has been put together by the amorphous androgynous (aka the future sound of london) and involves backwards guitars, sitars, choirs, orchestras, and possibly a kitchen sink being thrown about in the background.
the sonic playfulness and laid back vibes generally brings about memory throwbacks to the times when andrew weatherall and the orb made guitar bands sound better than you would have ever imagined, all the more strange when you think that the source of this is oasis.
having loved the various releases by amorphous androgynous over the years when in a certain mood, i can’t deny a lot of this mix feels very familiar, but still, the production is just amazing throughout, meaning that when the guitars come crashing back in at 16 minutes following several minutes of meandering weirdness, a genuine standing-up-hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck moment is provided.
currently the mix is available as part of a digital bundle, or if you like to play this out properly, then it’s spread across two sides of heavy duty 33rpm vinyl and encased in a proper inner/outer cardboard album sleeve that’s even embossed.
quite a package to say the least.
if only the band were this adventurous for their albums proper.
