idc – imaginary bones

‘don’t you know who i think i am’

and so rants phil from the soon to return to the scene, lo-fidelity allstars, over a crunchy electro dance rock monster to hypnotic effect

a few years back, david, aka idc, told me how much of a fan of the lo-fis he was, and seeing his music has often ventured into similar territories as it straddles the boundaries of dancefloor chaos and rock-n-roll excess, the team up makes perfect sense.

dropping supposedly random vocal phrases in a ruff-n-ready northern accent (thus making this traitor of the north homesick), over a massive idc groove it’s clear that since david has got his debut artist album out of the way (last years excellent overthrow the boss class), he is clearly thirsty for more.

more noise. more attention. more funk. more action.

in his day job as an in-demand dj, idc knows how to make people strut their stuff, so has crafted two very different forms of the track.

the "main version" is all distressed synths and prodigy styled dance-rock aggression. festival overload guaranteed.

whereas the "alternate version" is all about the brilliantly time stamped plastic horns, which are backed by a drawn out guitar feedback (headphone listening treat as the loop is deep in the mix), fucked up electronics, and an in-yer-face mood that would please anybody who needs a soundtrack to get geared up to on a saturday night.

both versions are absolutely spot on, and given the right nudge should give idcs profile a well deserved boost.

surely, given that people are all over the return of the prodigy in ’09, and rock-n-rave is in demand, it’s time for people to realise they could have so much more ?
