well i never. today i got lucky.
browsing through the glut of crap in the current zavvi clearout, i spotted a cd with very minimalist artwork.
having no idea as to what it was, and therefore becoming intrigued i looked closer.
a lot closer.
there was a sticker covering up all the detail, but then i spotted this in the corner of the back cover : palette recordings.
then i realised that in the mess of lines that make the art, were the words, ‘john tejada where’
needless to say, that since fabric 44 has been one mix that’s had a chink of love from yours truly, i decided to take the plunge and see if the excellence continues.
two listens in and i can categorically state, it does.
straight forward stripped back techno. with some acid sqiggles here, some thin beats there, and a lot of melody.
not to mention the unexpected appearance of massive attack’s friend and collaborator, nicolette on desire, thereby adding an extra layer of human warmth to the clinical proceedings.
admittedly this is not an album that will change anyone’s life, but as a soundtrack to a stressful paymaster period of computer aided chaos, things don’t really come much more enjoyable than this.
so, should you spot this low profile release amongst the mountains of kooks styled crap, then you now know what you’ve been lucky enough to chance upon.
