the fact that they have people like strictly kev on board who love the whole packaging aspect to releases.
having been the man behind some fantastic special one off projects (eg. the robot themed mixtape that came in a transformer shaped carboard sleeve, the output records mixtapes), he along with ninja tune, have decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their massively popular and influential cut-n-paste internet radio broadcasts solid steel, with a rather wonderful hard copy archive to be packaged in a very shiny silver embossed cover as pictured above.
the dvd features 40 carefully selected highlights from the last 2 decades, and a quick scan over the contents as below surely indicates just how important this artifact is.
the shows are stored on the dvd as 192kbps mp3s, making this a perfect way to relisten to the shows as and when, along with an informative 34 page pdf document that contains all manner of excellence and insider detail on each of the shows.
primarily the dvd was created as a special giveaway for the early doors people at the up coming solid steel celebrations, however, i believe a few copies are to be made available via the ninja tune shop.
for this particular listener, the show that was top of my ‘must hear now’ options as soon as i saw the tracklist, was the david axelrod special, in which kevs pal dk interviews the man himself, while playing a selection of the genius’s catalogue. the 60 minutes broadcast is worthy of the entry fee alone.
