this is a beautiful track from the renowned asian producer who has worked with all sorts of folks over the years giving rise to expectations as to the mans forthcoming album.
deep rich production, full of gorgeous aural detail that evokes memories of bill laswells experiments, yet with an eye on the current love for bass heavy booms. the vibe also recalls better parts of the trip hop era, where the vocals by fola philips match the darker corners of the tracks ambience. this darker side to the atmospherics are given more prominence in the so called dubstep mix by shri’s old working partner, dj badmarsh, which despite the cliche in the title of the track, is a cracking slice of cinematic ambience and juddering beats.
shri’s own percussion mix drives forth the love of tabla, orchestral string samples, and twang guitar making this particular listener check his apollo 440 back catalogue to see if there are official connections, however, don’t let such associations deter you from tracking this beautiful track down in all its forms.
