galaktic rogue – rogue tv (season 2)

rucksack records came to my attention a couple of years ago via spectacular diagnostics.
he had provided beats and production on some kid acne releases.
having loved his sample heavy, old school boom bap loops i followed his progress to solo releases on rucksack, and was not disappointed to say the least.
i kept checking in, and have enjoyed other label releases that have delved into cinematic russian big beat, (lft), boom bap hip hop, (stig figa and the expert, spectacular diagnostics, miles cooke), and laid back jazz-n-beats (thysenterprise).
all of which leads me to this intriguing release by galaktic rogue.
it is to be upfront about it, a direct descendent of illbient.
especially the dark instrumental, industrial tinged, trip hop grooves that were released on the nyc based wordsound label (of which i definitely don’t have enough in the collection, as their cds were not often spotted in and around the shops i had access to when the label was active).
over the course of 13 mainly instrumental brief tracks, the bass is heavy, the beats are slow, and the atmosphere is brooding to the extreme.
(i guess some of this is obvious to those of us who are of an era to be able to spot the direct coverart connection to psychic tv).
while the album is mainly instrumental, there is one unexpected feature: doseone, of anticon/subtle ‘fame’, adds a gruff overlay to one of the albums highlights, red leaves.
would love to hear a full length collaboration from this team-up.
so, if you fancy a short-n-sweet dose of dark intense head nodding beats and loops to soundtrack the inevitable never ending doomscrolling then this could be just what you need.
