120 days – come out, come down, fade out, be gone (t.a. kaukolampi remix)

damn that’s a title.

up until a couple of days ago i had never heard of this band, quite possibly due to the fact the album never got a full uk release.

howwever, a chance spotting of the album in the cheap bins has meant that since then, i have listened to hardly anything else but.

cool cover art : check.

moody b+w shots of the norwegian band : check.

breakdown of the hardware used to make music layed out in the cd booklet : check.

extra cd of remixes : check.

sticker on cover advising sonic connections with krautrock, guitars, and trance disco : check.

bag that baby, i’m taking it home.

summary : drawn out technology made dance rock with epic songs lasting up to 11 minutes covering bases such as unkle, tangerine dream, techno and even u2.

the vocals are few and far between, and buried amongst the throbbing synths and pounding bass, so despite their being aspirations of stadium rock embedded within the bands desires, it’s the elongated synthetic atmospherics that please this particular listener the most.

of the remixes (120 days themselves and secret machines) this 9 minute monster by t.a. kaukolampi (who ?) has a definite oomph factor which when given time on a proper stereo will probably sound absolutely fantastic.

starting off with a moody cold clinical ambience, the heavy dance floor friendly bass line then kicks the listener into touch, with layers of extra machine noise being added to thrilling effect.

glorious.
