now that it looks like the english summer has finally kicked in, maybe we can hope that the aforementioned standon calling festival (aug 1st – aug 3rd) gets the weather it deserves.
lets have another look at that line up.
especially friday : the mystery jets, late of the pier, glasvegas.
i mean, i wont be there until saturday which means i will miss three of the festival highlights, something that’s really making me regret having a mortgage paying job.
glasvegas are definitely making all the right 2008 via 1986 noises and providing a wonderful dour alternative to the dayglo happiness of indie pop, late of the pier are about to release an excellent electro-nu-indie-dance album, fantasy black channel, proving you don’t have to come from australia and be signed to modular recordings to make cutting edge pop music that you can throw a glow stick to, and the mystery jets who have dumped the old(er) man, made an album of quality 80s indie, all the more ironic given that the man they sidelined probably grooved and partied to the original back in the day, and proved to have outstayed their expected one album lifespan by yours truly.
having dug in the list, other highlights across the other days include the mae shi, a human, (off kilter dark electro pop), long range (orbital spin off), eddy temple morris, (mashups like its 2005 !), sean mclusky (If!), cage the elephant, etc etc. meaning i’m holding out for quite an eye opening couple of days given that there is a varied spread of old school indie, nu-rave, pure pop, balls out rock and mad off the wall japanese psychedelic excess.
oh, and for the kids : wetsounds in which you are immersed in sound while taking a plunge in the baking sun.
hey we can but hope.
let the countdown begin.
