fabric vs ireallylovemusic

sometimes life is hard, really fucking hard to deal with.

for years i have been plugging away in my little corner getting a little love and attention along the way.

so when an email dropped from the good people @ the club all the good people like to collect, fabric, asking if i would be interested in hearing the latest releases i thought, ‘at last, i have been noticed !’ , and let us not forget that in recent times, the names that have been dropping mixes down for the label are ear candy of the highest order for anyone with an interest in techno/minimal/glitch/electro etc etc

unfortunately though, this blood pressure increase was not to last long as both of the new mixes that have been sent my way do little to the inner groove.

first up, is the straight up funky house sounds of mark farina – aka fabric 40

the mix is all nice and summery and smooth, but my initial love quickly evaporated as i happened to notice that throughout the 21 tracks is an underlying tracking beat that just dominates the complete mix, meaning that the variety in pace and style is completely lacking.

now that i have picked up on this, i simply cannot focus on anything else making it impossible for me to actually enjoy the music on offer. as i am not graced in the art of effective word play like philip sherbourne, i am unable to explain the structure of this mind twisting beat to a satisfactory level, but, there is a very noticeable boom-chk-boom pattern which would make me get funky when pumped out of a club soundsystem, though having it as a central force when home listening, makes the mix rather dreary.

so, that was one shot at love, done in.

having hoped this unusual negativity was a one off, along came the next release.

fabriclive 40 – by drum-n-bass supremos, noisia.

oh fuck.

i hated drum and bass when it was all the rage in the 90s, guess what my thoughts are in 2008 ?

whenever there was the obligatory d-n-b section in a mixtape it was always the part that i dreaded, and looked forward to the section ending, so imagine my vibe when placed with listening to a full 70 minute mix.

sorry, but over the years i have tried many times to get it, but no, it still aint happening.

i can appreciate that noisia have got this the new darker edge to the genre locked down, and yes, there are sections/tracks that make me go ‘ooooh!’ (mainly the times that atmosphere and dub basslines take over the intense drums), and of course, there is the name dropping  moby remix of alice by noisia hidden away in the chaos that’s been quite rightly given a lot of love as its mighty fine, it’s just that a solid set of 70+ minutes of this stuff, is way too much for this listener to take in one sitting.

i suspect these to be the only mixes released by fabric to be given any space on ireallylovemusic, as i fully expect the people behind these releases to instigate a denial of service attack on the site.

oh well, it was glorious fun while it lasted.
