wale – 100 miles and running (mixed by nick catchdubs)

being honest, it has been a quite while since i felt hip hop.
2007 has been all about the reawakening of my love for electronic music in all its varieties, subsequently banging beats with machismo’d up declarations have not exactly been on the top of my need list.
however, in the last few days ireallylovemusic has been rinsing old cut-n-paste mixtapes by such heroes as paul nice, dj format and of course dj yoda.
you see, all that thugged up studio gloss of g-unit styled productions do little for me.
instead i like stacks and stacks of uncleared samples looped and messed up, with some deft microphone fiend giving it some over the top of the dj chaos.
so, it’s  pure timing that i spotted a low profile release in the racks with the following advise on the simple cover ‘mixed by nick catchdubs’. for those that don’t know, nick is connected to the whole diplo mashup scene and has been involved with such releases as the motherfuckin’ remix  compilations.
so, with all this spinning round, i stumped up the cash and ran back to the silver disc machine.
despite the blind purchase, i am chuffed to tell you that the mixtape is chocka with hits of the day (gorillaz ! justice ! lily allen !) and some old classics all backing the joy that is wale’s verbals.
it’s certainly a refreshing listen – 2 decks and a microphone back in full effect style – with wale giving the whole listen an extra chunk of enjoyment with his smile inducing tales of luck with the girls, but thankfully, not in that slushy r-n-b way that makes my skin crawl.
oh – and the best news, for you that is, the mixtape is free and online. officially.
thus, making a right sucker out of yours truly.
ha.
