being honest, my monthly trip into the dusty corridors of mojo magazine are rarely pricked into action.
however, in the new issue my eye was caught by something rather exciting.
alongside the usual suspects of led zeppelin, radiohead, and of course the fucking beatles, was this snippet of news :
they haven’t played in their original formation for almost 20 years, but the first line up of rock’n-rollers the godfathers will reconvene to terrorise the populace next year. skull-cracking album, ‘hit by hit’ is reissued in january and the band will play selected dates, including their customary ‘valentines day massacre’ on feburary 14th.
words cannot express how great this news is.
while many years have passed by, and the folks involved may have put on a few pounds, there is no denying that, for a few years, the godfathers were one of the countrys best live acts.
i happened to see them several times, and never once did they fail to impress, and scare the living shit out of a young and impressionable student.
the sheer force of the vitriol and bluesy riffs were a joy to be exposed to.
when it comes to punked up rock with a blood encrusted snarl, no-one has surpassed these original gangsters.
