pagan wanderer lu – build library here (or else!)

the all too necessary one line summary : self made, lo-fi bedroom indie music like they used to make in the good old days.
normally the opening track, the ending makes what came before a story, of scratchy acoustic guitar and teen angst lyrics would have had me running to the hills, but the ironing pile was needing some attention thus making my priorities shift forcing me to let the cd continue spinning. which, by the time the 13 tracks were over i came to realise was a good thing, because despite my initial reservations a fair bit of this strange album made me smile.
comprising of one unnamed bloke messing about with his guitar, some keyboards, and crappy drum machine, the resolutely lo-fi results are all over the place, from fall type 1 minute 30 seconds of indie punk rock (2 bullets), to hot chip styled home made electro pop, but the best is easily the self effacing and rather amusing, sick of playing solo which tells the honest story of pwl getting fed up with his whole one band band shtick, only for a nasty 70s rock guitar solo coming in over the top of the delicate electronica making it oh so obvious as to why he remains a solo operation, making for a very entertaining album highlight that given a little studio polish could really pick up a cult following.
an album for those who like to dig a little deeper into the world of leftfield pop music and like to hear beyond the radio playlists. oh, and according to the press release, the record label behind reissuing this home made album, brainlove records, are dropping a whole set of these type of diy albums.
you have been suitably informed.
