a scorching 5 tracker to help the fans cope until the third album gets sorted.
stripping away a lot of the major label production sheen of show your bones, the band gone back to making a slimy primeval garage noise racket, that’s rather scary and unfriendly to all but the masses of fans that adore the band.
the sleeve has it written large and proud produced and recorded by nick launay meaning that the results are going to be interesting given his own history involving the creme de la creme of noise infected art heavy post-punk such as pil and the birthday party.
somwhat weirdly, opener rockers to swallow has a similar feel as the noisier side of foetus, something about the big crashing chord sequence rings a bell deep in the recess of my grey cells, but i suspect i’m alone in that association, so don’t get too concerned.
down boy is slightly a more mellow 4 minute experience, though with the a nice addition of some sexual sauce in the lyrical content, as if you couldn’t guess. kiss kiss is another of those hip shaking rumbling bass heavy grooves that the band excel at, as is the brilliantly fuzzed up guitar excess of closer 10 x 10.
basically, if you like the yeah yeah yeahs, then you are going to love this.
simple as that.
