look, drop into your local fopp record shop and get the robbie williams album, rudebox, for a massive bargain of £3. the critics were split, some loved, some hated.
thing is, get past the oh its a robbie williams album stigma, its actually a riot of fun and comes highly recommended purely for sheer wtf factor.
having dropped the dullsville aor based sound that he has peddled for years, for this album the production is predominantly cutting edge with dips to the 80s electro based dance, with production by mark ronson, pet shop boys and various others.
however, the real area of pain for many, are the lyrics of course.
openly direct, cringe inducing, humorous. robbie really lays it all out making it a compelling listen, with several moments of did he really just say what i thought he said ?
in a time when most pop stars just blabber on record sweet nothings of bland rhetoric, its quite refreshing to hear such a mainstream act just rip up the marketing rule book, and not give a shit.
and for that alone, its easily worth £3 of your pocket money.
