delakota – i thought i caught (david holmes remix)

following his stint with the pogo-tastic fraggle punk poppers, the senseless things, cass browne then went off and decided to play with baggy dance beats, samples and sunshine melodies.
the band, delakota, picked up a bit of interest, including some love from noel g from oasis who thought lead single, the rock, was worthy of a mention in the rundown for the year, and the band even appeared on the late night news programme, newsnight !
of course, things didn’t go according to plan, or maybe they did, as no sooner had they released their first single off their never released second album, everything went quiet, only for cass to later appear in the small print for the animated chaos of gorillaz.
see the connection ?
jamie hewlett brought the covers for senseless things to life, and obviously knew of cass’s skills and dropped his name in the hat when damon needed someone to do the studio homework.
anyway, this is a cracking david holmes remix that just proves how far from his electro-big beat origins he was going in. the love for 70s jazz-funk soundtrack music is very apparent from this brilliant 7 minute homage to instrumental funk, no wonder hollywood beckoned.
i just wonder if when david applied for the whole oceans project, if he submitted this track to prove his worthiness.
