the time’s right for us. people are fed up with mumbling indie bands. we are all about big tunes you can sing your heart out to. paul tucker, the orange lights
this interesting quote opens the press release for this band.
while it on one hand takes a well aimed swipe at the current scene, it also provides clues as to just what this new band are going to sound like. but before we get the results of the bands debut single, there is the small factor of just who is in the band. for a start, paul tucker, was one half of the dreary lightweight soul-pop band the lighthouse family, and jason hart who has been part of the spiritualized band. a mad combination to say the least, and one that raises all manner of questions as to the core drive behind this project.
for all the fire in the belly of the band, the results are for fans of delicate layered indie rock.
so say hello to doves, embrace, and those quiter depressing moments of the verve. opening single, let the love back in has all that moodiness and pleasant sky reaching guitars but, it has to be said, this doesn’t grab me.
i suspect that’s the point. instead this will appeal to people who like a little indie-ness on their lazy sundays mornings, a record to mellow out to after they have rocked out to snow patrol.
despite my own reservations, they are going to be massive, and i have no doubt that the new indie guitar pop music friendly radio 2 are going to hammer this record into your skull.
