24 hours ago this new album arrived, and i have to admit, i have made up my mind about the groove armada album, soundboy rock, already.
i don’t like it.
i love the eboy cover though, so fair play on that score.
you see the album is one of those dance favoured listens that likes to drop tracks for each scene.
so you get an electro track, a euphoric hands in the air house track, a ragga track, some ambient, a little dub (the excellent title track) and even some outkast via p-funk grooves.
while it all sounds rather nice (the production is very smooth and polished), the overall effect is one of a mess and chaos.
no doubt when the lads tour this, the audience will have the party of their lives, and when certain individual tracks are lifted for remixes and mixtapes then you’ll be very impressed.
however, when it comes to actually listen to the album, then its not one that soundtracks a mood or anything, instead its a spread of tracks that in their individual context sound great, but as a whole it doesn’t really make for an album that i want to listen from start to finish.
