a compilation that within 45 minutes sums up all that is good and possibly bad about the ultra hip ed banger records label.
but where is volume 1 i hear you cry?
well that was a digital only release that hit the wire back when santa was filling your stockings.
so, for this real world follow up, across the 14 tracks are all the usual suspects, justice, sebastian, busy p and even the klaxons in remixed form. the music is pretty much a tour de force of acidic techno rock-n-roll that will make your hair gel crumble under the subsonic bass booms, but to make the album a little more diverse than your usual dance record label mixtape, they have spliced things up with full on weirdness, brilliance and umm crap.
the good stuff rips holes in your speakers with the excessive digital chaos that the coked up ebay trawling hipsters love. (those artworked up limited vinyl releases are pure crack addiction for collectors), however, i never really felt the love for uffie‘s messy beats and disjointed flow. thankfully, justice redeem themselves with a glorious old school distorted synth overloaded phantom that extends the connection with the daft punk sound once more but in such a fashion that the pleasure is easy to let loose. other highlights include, stick it a fine slice of electro hip hop casio techno from dj mehdi that doesn’t feature on the mans forthcoming album, lucky boy. and the frankly sensory overloaded electronic noise that is busy ps rainbow man (not that they could not include something as busy p is the label boss man!).
unfortunately, there is one stinker, the dreadfully dated eagle eyez by mr flash, with a far too heavy dependance on jann hammer styled synthesiser corn, it just doesn’t fit in with the rest of the album.
however, the album then gets back into the jackhammer beats and cut up digital noise funk with the appearance of nme faves klaxons albeit in very tune free remixed form.
then just as you begin to tire of the machine overload, the compilation is drawn to a close by some genius rock-n-roll with a groove by vicarious bliss for the five and a half minute extended dance workout that is limousine, that seems to start off with a stone roses beat, adding the baba o’reilly keyboard loop, and then just layering this up and up with guitars and more guiatsr in a style that death in vegas would be proud of.
a cracking final track. making this collection well worth picking up.
