ok ok, i know that ain’t the right name for the band, but i can’t be arsed with all that proper punctuation gubbins, and the text parser of this blog will throw a hissy fit if i try to post something with weird characters in the title.
anyway, when this limited release dropped into the pile i was amazed to see that the review copy comprised of the one track only, as the band have normally added all manner of weird and twisted remixes into their recent releases.
then when you drop the cd in the machine you realise what’s going on.
don’t be a doctor is the bands epic seven and a half minute prog track with changing moods and rhythms being blown to pieces left rights and centre, it’s a monstrous track and has apparently become a centrepiece of the bands current live sets. starting off all nice and mellow, building up the tension before things are dropped into their usual brand of post punk funk with the idiosyncratic vocals that can make some people of a nervous disposition run with their hands over their ears.
the track is the first proper new track to see the day of light that isn’t connected to their well received debut (other than the paul tipler production), so provides an interesting insight into the direction they may go for their highly anticipated follow up.
also, there is a proper track title !
what a bunch of sellouts.
ha.
however, for those made of sterner stuff this is the sound of band flexing and experimenting with their angular centric style, and the results are a lot more interesting than the view that’s ferrsure.
recommended.
