well this one came out of nowhere, sort of.
following on from the recent stiff records extravaganza on tv recently i guess it was only natural that the label would rise from the ashes and jump back into the release schedule.
evenso, when the promo for the limited release by the enemy, 40 days and 40 nights, dropped onto the mat yesterday with that logo on, i have to admit my heart fluttered a little.
not that i was ever that big a follower of the stiff empire.
no not at all, other than my first true love was a band on the label, called madness.
some may find that hard to believe, but when you are 11 and the band rule the world with their mutant popped up ska and downbeat lyrics, their journey from one step beyond to yesterdays men (and now well beyond!) mirrored many personal lifetime events, thus meaning my shelves were stacked with stiff branded picture discs, cassette singles, 12″, 7″ edits, oh yes, while ztt records were famous for the format excess, stuff were well involved when it came to their old cash cow, and boy did they take my cash.
so, how about the new era ? well, let’s just say that the music is rock music, and it will be played in pubs. its a blue-sy riffed up beast, and will probably please any old dr feelgood fans.
same as it ever was really.
out on limited 7″ in november.
