back in the area

after a quiet few weeks yesterday became a rather special day.
basically, my doormat was littered with new on-u sound related product.
now me and on-u go back a long long way, but not that far.
it all started back in the mid 80s, with very big in america right now by voice of authority, and then got into serious action with pay it all back volume 1.
as has been part of the ongoing relationship, i have become aware that being a fan of this stuff requires patience, patience, a knack of digging in the bins for unloved releases, and yup, even more patience
especially, as a few years ago there was suddenly a proper decent website online, a few new releases (the superb ghetto priest album basically), and a fantastic compilation that promised new sounds from all manner of artists.
naturally, a lot of those releases have yet to see the light of day, the website disappeared and all went very quiet, yes there is the trickle of reissues and relicenced product (dub syndicate/african headcharge) via all sorts of labels, but i want new music, i want new directions of on-u to hit my stereo.
then last year, i caught mark stewart and the mafia with adrian sherwood on the mix live in hometown bristol.
it was truly mind (and ear) blowing, and clearly obvious that the people involved were still very much full of passion and love for their trademarked sound.
there is a previous posting about that glorious night if interested, along with a zip of the gig for those who want the memories.
even now in 2006 the collision of distorted funk, dub reggae, vocal snippets, and everything that’s chucked into the mix sounds like nothing else on earth.
i am rather chuffed to tell you that these new releases will thrill old fans, and anybody who has yet to hear just why adrian sherwood and his studio cohorts are responsible for influencing just about every style of music going (just do your research – adrian has worked with everyone .. )

so, what’s on the release schedule then :

little axestone cold ohio (9th october)
adrian sherwoodbecoming a cliche (limited edition includes extra dub disc) (6th nov)
tackhead sound crashslash and mix by adrian sherwood (13th nov)
on-u sound crashslash and mix by adrian sherwood (13th nov)
mark stewartlearning to cope with cowardice (13th nov)

as you can see its a mix of old stuff (the sound crash mixes are mashed up hip hop dj styled megamixes of old classics), new releases, and a reissue – all on the emi/realworld imprint, meaning anyone can actually buy these from a proper shop as opposed to hunting them down as with previous on-u sound product.
so now you have no excuse.
i would love to point you to a relevant official website, but hey, we all know the score, however, there is a fine fine fine fan site for more information.

more detail : here

if the blog goes quiet now for a few days, i think you know why.
i may even return with an mp3 of some old on-u sound remix (shed 7 !) to whet your appetites.

stay tuned.
