a long time ago under the guise of a pseudo, ‘stumbo‘ (a deep cut reference to foetus),
i became embroiled into the world of gorillaz.
it was a mad wild time and a lot of fun.
to the point i nearly got fired over it.
subsequently, i have a lot of promo chaos (including a 10″ ‘signed’ single by the ‘band’ where the signatures were all apparently done by jamie h !).
then the world changed,
following the release of the ‘clint eastwood‘ single,
the ‘band’ became a huge thing and so my involvment was no longer of interest (sort of).
however, i have always loved the mix of damons love for genre clashes and of course the artwork of jamie h.
hence i have always felt an urge to check their albums out.
not going to lie, the last few albums have felt like random collections of tracks/collaborations and have often left me cold.
yesterday they released a new album, ‘the mountain‘.
within minutes of me pressing play this album feels and sounds dfferent.
album of the year already ?
