chase & status – what came before

2022 : the generation gap narrows.

last sunday it was mk2s 19th birthday.
in the lead up to the big day i was struggling to figure out what to get him.
then a couple of weeks before, i heard that chase & status had a new album coming out – ‘what came before‘.

i headed over to the bands official website to have a dig around the available options.
bingo : long sleeve t-shirt + cd + signed print bundle.
sorted.
the bundle arrived on day of release,
i.e. the friday, just over a week before the all important sunday.
i genuinely felt good about my choice.

however, the same sunday as his birthday also happened to be fathers day in the uk.

on the previous saturday, while mk2 was still in brighton, a package arrived at hq.
was bloody obvious what it was as there was a reference number on the delivery sticker that was very similar to the reference number on the bundle package.
he had clearly ordered me the chase & status cd edition for fathers day.

thankfully the album is bloody brilliant.
a fantastic mix of classic era d-n-b, 140 moods, massive basslines and tunes.
as the chase & status lads themselves say, it encapsulates their history in one short and succinct release.

oh, and mk2 loves the long sleeve and signed print, so result.
but still, does feel kind of weird.
