.. retrosynth aka outrun
basically, the last 12 months i have succumbed hard to the so called retrosynth groove.
the formula is simple, but when done right the results are very effective.
80s era styled synths, arcade games, a vocoder vocal, gated drums (mainly via a machine), plastic sax, and synth-axe solos.
note : there are no drops or wubbles, this stuff is rarely for the modern dancefloor.
the sub-genre, outrun, is all about neon lit sunsets, delorean cars, drawn out moods and atmospherics.
yet, there is another darker side to this nerd infested subculture that provides a synthetic soundtrack to a dystopian world, often post apocalypse, where robotic automation is on the rise.
in other words, this music is all about imagined soundtracks for films such as : bladerunner, terminator, tron, mad max, escape from new york, and anything with a soundtrack by john carpenter.
so, for a while i will be posting covers and links to the groove that is currently dominating my playlist.
but hey, this is what i am listening to and enjoying a lot.
onwards
