upon its release, i inevitably travelled down various roads to get a copy of the freebie itunes version of the much derided u2 album, songs of innocence.
i then converted/imported the album into my music player of choice.
which was lovely and all that.
however, i noticed the low quality bitrate, both via headphones, and the file details.
so, on an urge today, i have bought the expanded edition via the evil corporate tax dodgers amazon, and got a whole new set of digital files.
f*ck.
despite the fact i actually prefer the original lo-tech cover art of the freebie, the sonics of the full edition are massively improved.
no idea if the band/label held things back, but the album sounds a lot more dynamic than the freebie version.
the difference in the freebie and the full quality version is very noticeable.
i guess its a case of the old school groove of : ‘you get what you pay for’.
and yes, i care not, bring the hate.
i like u2.
after all, this is not my first admission.
hence why this album will easily be in my list of albums of 2014.
[ that said, this album is not a patch on the david axelrod album of the same name, but that’s a whole different groove. ]
