i rarely watch later these days, but last night i got a text advising that jeff lynne was on, so deciding to forsake my love of news and see what the elo lynchpin is up to now, i flicked over, just as jools was saying ta ra to him.
humph.
but then something weird happened.
i stayed on the channel.
and thank f*ck i did, as i then saw the clip above.
now, i am all too aware of the massive hype around this band, the fact they are well connected etc, but damn, if this isn’t the best live performance i have seen by a new band on tv in a long long long time, then i don’t know what is.
yes, they are digging into their well stocked record collections, yes, it’s very much in line with many a post punk legend, but that matters not when the results are this perfect.
now, i am not going to shout ‘believe the hype’ based upon one amazing song performed brilliantly on a tv show that i usually fall asleep in front of, but perhaps, just perhaps, there is a new band that i can throw my love at in 2012.
